The 'true' Eid in the UK was on TUE 24 OCT.
The Eid of modernists/laa madhhabiyeen who do NOT conform or follow any schools of Jurisprudence/Fiqh was on MON 23 OCT. This is because they choose to follow the petrodollars of Kingdoms that follow narrow minded puritanical literalism.
Sorry about the diatribe but I think it was necessary to point this out.
Thank you for the explanation, Abu Turath.. Isn't it a shame that we cannot even agree on something so fundamental???.. Muslims have started fasting on three different dates, and celebrated Eid on three different dates!.. The begining and end of each lunar month can now be determined years in advance..

In England too!!! Here in Australia we had the same pitiful situation. At the end of the earth, a tiny minority in this land and still we have a hundred thousand groups claiming to represent Islam and yet they can't unanimously figure out the start of a lunar month. I guess this is the only thing that unites Muslims these days. They agree to disagree on everything.
There needs to be tolerance and understanding between Muslims. Everybody needs to stop thinking that they ALONE are the FIRQA AN-NAJIYA and that others are going to the Naar. Only Allah knows this - there is no point 2nd guessing and assuming anything.

I am a fifty-something Syrian-born physician, living in the North of England since the mid-eighties. I was born and brought up in the beautiful city of Damascus, and studied in its University. I worked in Lebanon for three years, until, due to reasons beyond my control, Israel decided to invade Lebanon. I now work in a large Teaching Hospital, and I am heavily involved in medical education, trauma and resuscitation training, and similar activities. Outside work, I enjoy sports, reading, and various family-oriented activities.. I have three delightful children. Although some might argue differently, I maintain that they have inherited their intellect from me. However, I am delighted to say they have not inherited my looks.
